Synopsis:

Nightbooks take some time to warm up, but the main fear comes in the second half. Nightbooks is a film for the youthful and youth. And it tells a very familiar narrative in a unique horror-fantasy package. With it is very well thrills, references to sci-fi/horror, and message of embracing oneself.

No matter how different—an it's excellent entry-level horror film for children who are interested in the genre. Given its simple concept, Nightbooks is a solid start in the crowded field of disturbing family-friendly content.

Alex is a fan of the genre who is obviously too young to have watched all of the fantastic violent movies promoted on his bedroom walls, so there may be some dubious housekeeping going on here. And that isn't the reason he's sobbing.

He tosses all of his Fangoria mags aside and gathers all of his horror stories, swearing to burn them. As he sneaks out of the flat to the elevator, his parents chat in quiet tones in another room.

He desires to descend to the underground, but there's a rumbling, a dimming of lights, and odd ethereal whispering that leads him to the fourth story, where there's a flat that exists in reality outside of time. He seems to have no option but to go because the controls don't function and the movie has a mission to complete.

The flat is strewn with spooky antique dolls, spiders, and dark illumination. Alex is enthralled by an ancient console TV that is wavering and playing The Lost Boys.

Twists

The narrative twists and twists, Fegley is a fantastic dork. And Ritter has by far the most fun as a punk-rock Elvira on platform shoes. With a handful of inventive standard size set pieces, some skittery CGI life forms. And earnest work from its group of young precepts. The film is adequate buzzwords medium-light scary fodder. Nightbooks are like getting Tootsie Rolls in your Halloween bag: It's not a Snickers bar, but it's also not a clutch of boulder Pal gum.

Nightbooks is a rigidly funny kid movie that's like The Book of Henry. Except worth watching and noticeably less disasterous.

Best Dialogue:

                               “Writers. Always so insecure.”
