Synopsis:
Bhoot Police begins with two siblings whose work is to chase and destroy apparitions for cash is alloted an undertaking in a far off town. They are spotted by Maya during a 'Spirit Carnival,' and she brings them to Dharmashala to enthral a 'Kichkandi'.
Following the trend of brothers with opposing viewpoints, we get Kanu. Maya's mismatched sister who does not believe in ghosts or ghostbusters. Of course, the remainder of the Bhoot Police needs to be about how this unbalanced jodi of brothers freed a hamlet from an ancient ghost.
Arjun Kapoor manages to maintain a good balance between being subtle and being a caricature. Sometimes, the way he underplays Chiku becomes a problem because 'eccentric' Ali Khan takes centre stage. His character journey places him in a constrained area with little possibilities to maintain the mystery. Given the breadth the writers may have envisaged when coupling Arjun and Saif as siblings.
Script
A few well written lines provide exquisite situational humour, like as Arjun and Saif's puzzled expressions following a nepotism joke or Arjun asking villagers if they want to see his 'kagaz'. There's also a Go Goa Gone easter egg, which I'll leave up to you to solve.
And it's hilarious if you get it in time. Again, Jacqueline Fernandez depends heavily on how her character has the flaws she has in real life, such as dealing with the accent. It's nothing she hasn't done before when it comes to staying in her comfort zone.
Thank goodness the producers avoided including superfluous material and cliched love tunes in Bhoot Police. Only one song, in the closing credits, is completely optional. With their ability, they can turn mediocre prose into something exceptional. But this wasn't even typical for their level. The same holds true for squandering Jamie Lever's skill.
Although Stree's content is stronger. Bhoot Police nevertheless establishes a separate bracket for itself that might be further explored to produce an undisputed classic in this field.
